Herschel Law Ltd is a solicitors practice at 60 High Street, Slough, authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority under firm number 8001050 and a recognised body since 12 August 2022. We act for private and business clients across Berkshire and the Thames Valley.
Our solicitors qualified and trained in the UK and gained their experience at leading city firms, then chose to practise somewhere clients can walk in off the street. Everything about how the firm runs follows from that decision.
A large firm's economics depend on layers — a partner who takes the meeting, an associate who does the work, a team you never meet. That model is efficient for the firm and opaque for the client. We took the opposite approach: one named solicitor per matter, direct contact details, and a price agreed before the work starts.
It means we turn away work we cannot do properly, and we say so at the first meeting rather than three months in. It also means we can move quickly, which matters more than most firms admit — immigration deadlines, police station attendances, possession notices and tribunal claims are all lost on timing far more often than on argument.
A named solicitor. One person runs your matter from start to finish, and you have their direct contact details.
A written scope and quote. Before any chargeable work begins, you receive a client care letter setting out what we will do, what it costs, what is excluded, and the likely timescale.
Published fees. Our price list is on this website. Where a matter can be done for a fixed fee, we quote one. Where it cannot, we tell you the hourly rate and the likely range.
A straight answer. Including when the answer is that you do not need a solicitor, or that a claim is not worth bringing.
No two matters are the same, so we do not pretend otherwise. At your first consultation we tell you which basis applies to your case and what it is likely to cost, then confirm it in writing before any work begins.
One person handles your matter and you deal with them directly. Our principle is simple: treat people the way we would want to be treated.

Flexibility, agility and quick turnarounds. We keep matters moving, and tell you straight away when something needs a decision from you.
You are told at the outset who is handling your matter. Where they are solicitors, their SRA number is published so you can check it on the public register.

Professional indemnity insurance. As a regulated firm we carry compulsory professional indemnity insurance that meets the SRA's minimum terms. Details of the insurer and the territorial coverage are available on request.
If something goes wrong. We would rather hear about it than not. Our complaints procedure ) sets out how to raise a concern, how long we will take, and how to take it to the Legal Ombudsman if you remain unhappy.
SRA digital badge. Slot for the SRA's digital badge, which is mandatory for regulated firms with a website and is currently unused.
If you are not sure whether you need a solicitor, say so. We will tell you either way — there is no charge for finding out.
